Note that, like any survey question, it should:

  • Provide clear and mutually exclusive choices

  • Include an “Other” option (unless you're sure you've covered every possible answer)

  • Be written in the user’s language , (which may be different from the organization's terminology)

Sometimes, it may not be possible for a single question to determine the user group. If your testing tool lets you filter results based on combinations of survey questions, you can use 2 (or even 3) questions to determine the user group:
